Sara Petrella and Claire Brizon went to Toronto (Canada) for the annual conference of the CSECS / SCEDHS & NEASECS, entitled: “From Cosmopolitans to Cosmopolitanisms” (Program here).
Each of them presented a paper in the panel (which they also organized), entitled: “The Anthropologie and the Dialogue between Images, Objects, and Texts in the 18th Century”.
Claire talked about the case study of the cabinet of the Academy of Lausanne in the 18th Century. She showed how Lausanne was a cosmopolitan place through the cabinet of the Academy and its artifacts. Sara presented her research about illustrated books and the construction of an anthropological perspective, starting with the study of Alexandre César Chavannes and his writings.
They were also invited to participate in the lecture series on curiosities and 16th French travel literature, curated by Gregoire Holtz, associate professor (University of Toronto) at the Center for Reformation and Renaissance Studies (CRRS).
